Announcement – 2023 Region Election Results

Southern Vermont Region  completed the 2023 elections.  The following members have been elected to serve two year terms beginning in April 2024.

Region Director – William McMinn
Southern Section Chief – Kevin Glassman (second term)
Northern Section Chief – Kathy Mahoney (second term)

News – Southern Vermont Womens OET Clinic 

A Womens Enhancement Clinic with focus on OET skills will be held January 6-7, 2024 at Saskadena 6. This is a great opportunity to meet new patrol friends, renew ties with current friends, and receive ski and toboggan coaching and practice from some of the top instructors in Southern Vermont and Eastern Division.  Its open to all levels of patrollers on skis, tele, or snowboard.

News – SVT Member Receives Minnie Dole Award.

Dick Woolf, a Stratton Mountain patrol member, has been awarded the prestigious Minnie Dole Award. For the past 53 years as a patroller Dick has proven to showcase that of devotion, dedication and the sacrifices that embody NSPs’ founder, Charles Minot ‘Minnie’ Dole. The award is the highest NSP honor and has rarely been given.  Congratulate Dick when you see him around the refreshers and/or ski areas in our region.

Killington Patrol School will be held February 3-4, 2024.  This school has special tracks for alpine patrollers, seniors, instructors, and certified candidates.  The school is a great chance to try different terrain and work on toboggan handling skills with region and division OET instructors.  A ski enhancement day with a PSIA instructor is also included. News – Young Adult Patroller Event

A Young Adult Patroller seminar was held at Saskadena 6 on Saturday, January 28, 2023.  The Eastern Division YAP seminar was held at Smugglers Notch in March. SVT members attended both events and performed at an outstanding level. Lots of fun, education, and patrol fellowship was had by all who attended. A Southern Vermont region staff meeting was held at Bromley on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 8:30am-12pm.  Contact: Frey Aarnio for details.

News – Fall 2021 Regional Election Results

Elections were conducted in fall 2021 for the following offices:

  • Southern Vermont, Region Director
  • Southern Vermont Region, Southern Section Chief – covering Bromley, Magic Mountain, Stratton, Mount Snow, Brattleboro, and Haystack/Hermitage.
  • Southern Vermont Region, Northern Section Chief – covering Okemo, Killington, Suicide Six, Quechee, and Twin Farms.

The election was conducted electronically with “Election Runner” and was open during the SVT region fall 2021 OEC Cycle B refresher season from September 8 to November 21. Region patrollers elected Frey Aarnio as Region Director, Kathleen Mahoney as Northern Section Chief, and Kevin Glassman as Southern Section Chief. 

The positions are two year terms starting in April 2022. 

News – Outstanding Patrol Representative Award

Frey Aarnio is the 2021 Eastern Division Outstanding Patrol Representative and the runner-up for the National Outstanding Patrol Representative. On October 17, 2021, our Eastern Division Director, Cal Goldsmith, made the formal presentations at the Bromley OEC Refresher. 

News – Southern Vermont Bike Patrol Advisor

Tait Germon has been appointed Southern Vermont Bike Patrol advisor. Tait brings a wealth of operational experience with bike operations at Killington including bike trail construction, lift operations for biking, and bike patrol operations. His email address is tgermon@killington.com.

News – NSP Youth Protection Policy

Division has issued guidance on the new Youth Protection Policy and mandatory training. In summary, All Region and Division leadership are required to take the training. This must be completed annually by December 31. Additional information and guidance can be found here: Resources

Ski Patrollers Wanted –  Magic Mountain

Magic Mountain is currently recruiting new candidate patrollers or experienced patrollers to join our enthusiastic team for next season. No previous experience necessary and all relevant training will be provided. Ski / Snowboard interviews are taking place throughout the month of March at Magic Mountain. Fund Raiser – SVT Shirts  & Stickers

SVT Region is working to raise funds to update the regions OEC training supplies for Senior OEC courses and Region OEC clinics.
